Media reformation in Bangladesh and the perspectives

Bangladeshi media houses and the journalists were never free to say anything against government, political parties and religious group. They always been suffered due to self sensorship, being victim, and legal harassment. The media landscape of Bangladesh was not appropriate in anytime in history. Every government were pressurized to medias to keeping distance to finding and circulating the fact. That's why Medias don't fulfill the its necessity.
But during last tenure of Hasina Wazed was most difficult times in the history for the journalists. Journalists wasn't able to raise any hard question to any minister including Sheikh Hasina. They never like to heard any disturbing question. BAL government used print, electronic and digital medias to promoting their ideology and escalating dis information against their opinions. Sometime leaders of Bangladesh of Awami Ligue influenced journalists those are working under his or their own outlets to characterise their own perty leaders.
Bangladeshi people were used to to have this kind of media trial a long time. They have nothing to do and nothing to say. Because all are private television channel. Without owner's permission, journalists are not able to produce in report or doing any investigation. Yes that's true that, few media and journalist take responsibility and risk.
Another thing is that, most of the head of News or editor were aligned with DGFI's media monitoring cell. So doing something is supposed to be impossible. The military intelligence always been observing the journalists. Sometime the force disappeared numbers of journalist during last decades.
This kind of journalism are not sufficient to protect people rights and promote democracy. When interim government lead by professor Muhammad Yunus came to power, they form a reformation commission to identifying the obstacles for journalists and propose how to deal with that obstacles.
Bangladeshi journalists were happy with that initiative. They were excited to have a journalism friendly working field. They were hoping that, in upcoming days they will be able to say and write what they found. Media Reformation commission will create an environment where journalists will never have immediate disclose. Their job will be secure. Commission wil ensure their minimum wage.
But after 9 months of formation media reformation commission, we didn't see anything change. They didn't talk with journalists to know the problem of them. They didn't discussed how to deal with the obstacles. But they didn't forget to seat with the owners of media outlets. The reform commission just submitted an official report to the interim government. In my opinion, Without having information from the field level journalists report is immaterial. The report never reflect the professional journalist's need.
Personally I talked with the chief of media reformation commission, Mr. Kamal Ahmed. He informed me that, they collected data from field level journalists. He claimed it with confidence. But no journalists in my network were asked about their problems, lifestyle and expectation.
National consensus commission led by Chief Advisor discussed with political parties about all reports those are submitted by 9 reformation committee. They had discussed about political process, election process and the governing system. But discussion on media reformation report little bit inadequate.
I can remember that day, the members of media reformation commission met with the chief advisor professor Muhammad Yunus. Professor Yunus seen that, few things in report those can be implement right now. No need to discuss with anyone. Because, there is no scope to disagree with that. He ordered to take immediate action. But, nothing happened. We are shocked.
Election is coming. Professor Yunus will left the 'Jamuna' unsucssed. Nothing changed in our industry. Still we are hopeless. We got a Nobel laureate, but he don't realize our pain. We remember him as failed 'Professor'.
But I have to say that, the failed 'Professor' never pressurized to medias and its employees. That's appreciable.
